Names and Languages

Lets do this one out of the gate, as you are more then likely going to hear this the whole way through. I HATE SPEAKING ENGLISH! 😤 My first language was BSL, British Sign Language, so coming from a non-verbal form of communication to English is like doggy paddling to swimming the English Channel😨. BSL has very little grammar and well... English is full of it🙃. You have words that are easy to say like to, but this comes at the cost of the what meaning does it mean. I know that in different places of the UK have accents and with this comes lots of different words that have different or new meanings. Did you know that BSL also has accents, its the same words just signed differently. To this makes more sense. Also I normally don’t call people by their names and almost never will whilst processing because if I had talked to 5 Alice’s and 10 Bens and processed them all the same then I would lose which Alice and Ben I talked to about what😓, so i...

The PIP Report

Hey everyone, I know this has taken a while.  I am still going through the process so I will keep updating this post as I go through it.   Before I go any further I should say the PIP stands for Personal Independence Payment. This is a benefit that helps people with any form of additional needs to be independent. And now prepare for an onslaught of stupid decisions and pointless reasoning  So, PIP has been a bit of a pain. There were some things I have spoken of; like the 30 minute ‘interview’ when it took 3 days for me to get diagnosed with autism.  Also, the questions or should I say the answers to those questions are just silly.  Example: how far can you walk taking into account any aids you use? A) less than 20 meters B) between 20 and 50 meters C) between 50 and 200 meters D) 200 meters or more E) it varies. So, they haven’t said where you are walking to. They haven’t given any issue of how hard walking could be. They haven’t even sai...

Post Diagnostic Meltdown

Image
I am firstly sorry this one is late by nearly a week😢. I was waiting to talk about my experiences at the DANA Post Diagnostic course. Then I had a meltdownπŸ’«πŸ™ƒ. That was from the DANA Post Diagnostic course😢. Anyway, the course it self taught me not much else I didn't already know. For anyone who hasn't been to one.  A post-diagnostic course is where you learn some bits about your condition, in my case autism (Asperger's), you learn about the strength you can have being autistic, learn how to control certain issues and how to fit into a neurotypical world. And we did this for 3 hoursπŸ’₯ and have this again next Tuesday.  Well, anyone who knows my thoughts will know that I don't think we should fix it, we should be able to thrive alongside neurotypicals; all we need is a little kindness and support from people around usπŸ‘ͺ. My 'superpowers'πŸ’ͺ are to mimic anything I need to be to get by, alongside some others but I want to focus on this one. I know some peop...

My reaction to NAS watching Rain Man.

Hi everyone, if you have been reading some of my blog posts you will know I don’t really like The National Autistic Society at all😑. I like that we can celebrate everyone is different on the spectrum, but with them or at least the ones allowed on social media don’t seem to like any labels that separate us or like most of the terms of us… Which okay I can understand but the puzzle sign (which is the sign for autism and Aspergers) they don’t like. The terms high functioning, low functioning, Asperger’s and some don’t like the term Autistic. Which are all silly, my official diagnosis is Asperger’s with High functioning autism. They would prefer a person with autism- which sorry I won’t use. This shows some people that there may be a cure for us and there just isn’t we are perfectly odd people. Anyway, they have come up with a very biased video on YouTubeπŸ˜–. Before anything is said in the comments, yes I am subscribed to them, I do this just so I know what other people are talking about ...

PIP Assessment... WHY?

I had my PIP assessment on the 13 th I think it went wellπŸ‘. As I walked in I twitched quite badly, I still have a bruise nearly a week laterπŸ˜”. The person who saw me was a qualified nurse, even they didn’t quite know what to do with me. Which sounds bad but through the Health and Social Care system only specialist really deal with autism. Also, Autism diagnosis are getting more common, but it doesn’t mean people with autism see more of doctors, nurses or other people through the health care system. We see the same people that we keep seeing because that is the best way of stopping the meltdown, either that or they have to bring in someone who knows about autism or is trained in special needs.  Anyway, back to the PIP😢. It only took around 30 minutes. My assessment for autism took 3 days, yes days😱😳. So… How does 30 minutes fill up 3 day’s worth of assessments? I am not too sure either. So, people genuinely think that you can cover completely someone’s autism in 30 min...

What It Means To Be Autistic

Right like I said I had something a little odd I was doing. This time the topic is Autism, just pure ASD. I ask some of my friends, yes, I do have some and yes, it is a shock. I am going to give what I asked them first then I will show you what they said, this hasn’t been edited- they are this corny. I will use the nicknames I gave them.  These answers are from Nemo (not the fish🐠) What are the good things about having a friend with autism? The good things about having a friend with autism are the things you learn and start to understand and the bond you develop with each other as you both understand each other different views and outlooks on life. Having a friend with autism has made me so much more aware of how it might affect the daily life of an individual with autism. It has enabled me to become more aware of different factors which contribute to autism and how things like the environment or social situations can cause challenged or barriers for an individual ...

An End of a Module

Before I talk too much. This is the new look for the blog I know it's bright but I wanted it to be colourful, I'm sorry if I have burned anyones eyeballs πŸ˜‰. I have tried to copy colours from actual geckos. So everything has kinda  been geckofied. I have added some more bits around, so if you can see if you can find all of the bits that have changed.   I have now finished my End of Module Assessment- Hooray. I will send it off for marking tomorrow. If I pass I can go to the next module. The next module is about psychology, it's good to actually have a module about psychology in a psychology degree. Anyway rather than just talk about that little update I thought I would talk about how to talk to someone one the spectrum. To me it's one of the funniest and annoying things. I remember I was in year 5, so way before I was diagnosed as autistic, it was just before the Easter holidays. I was on a school trip with the rest of the year, me and some of my classmates and ...

Environmental Changes

Image
For this one I think it is a bit of a difficult one to explain to someone who hasn’t got any sensory issues, but I will give it a shot 😊 .   I will split it to three parts: one about people, one about different bit of our environment (lightings, smells and sounds) and the last one about how some people on the spectrum make our own environment. So, first things first. What do I mean by environment is things like lighting in a room, odd smells; just the things in a room that can make an atmosphere or change how the room looks. This could include how many people are in a room or the type of person that is in the room with you. Most commonly, so not everyone has these issues, some issues that people on the spectrum are sensitive to light, noise, touch and smell. It like all your senses or a sense has become enhanced in some way. All my senses are sensitive to a point but not as sensitive as some I know. Whilst some I know only have a sense or two that are sensitive. So as ...
